CLJ94: what is lockdown?
To start off with, we were never really under "lockdown." That was a dramatic term for "shelter in place."
We are, however, still under a "shelter in place" order, so no, the "lockdown" isn't over.
But lots of businesses are attempting to reopen. Many others have gone permanently out of business. And still others are waiting.
The musical is having a table read next Tuesday, but all indicators are we won't be allowed or able to mount a show this year. So that's very much still under lockdown.
I guess it's a personal call this at this point. I certainly have seen plenty of people posting that they aren't going anywhere soon. I thought I was going to be one, too. And I haven't given an outdoor bar a shot yet. But we did roll out to a protestn with a few thousand (masked) people.
So is the lockdown over? No.
Is maskworld starting? Yes and no.
Is the virus done? No.
Are things normal? No.
Is traffic coming back? It feels that way, but looking at my own pictures tells me it's way down.
We drove over the GG bridge yesterday. Traffic was light. But what was really weird was the absence of tourists. Normally on a gorgeous June day, the pedestrian side of the bridge would be packed. Yesterday it was empty. The bicycle side had traffic, no rentals riding to Sausalito, just exercisers.
So yesterday I talked a little bit about my beef with the words "white privilege." I used a quote from the mayor of Healdsburg, who resigned recently over her non-handling of police reform. She said, "I don't experience racism."
Thinking about it, I realized, that is ultimately the kicker of "white privilege." When you have "white privilege" you might not think you are experiencing racism. But here's the thing: YOU ARE BEING RACISM.
Saying "my white privilege" is exactly the same thing as saying "my racism."
What is a neo-liberal? A neo, or "new" liberal is one who is tough on crime, pro-war, and against social spending, except on police and prisons.
Remember the "boi" I posted about, the car jacking, cop shooting, federal guard killing civil war wannabe? The one I said was ex-military?
I was wrong. He was on active duty.
File under: the masks versus the red hats
File under: just in case
Here we have a "mob of terrorists" marching onto a bridge. Are they going to blow it up?
Here's a guy who made the mistake of walking too closely to a policeman. The cop stopped short, and suddenly, he's "resisting" arrest.
But hey, not all is doom and gloom. Come November, we might all have a chance to vote for somebody who at least may wear a facemask at appropriate times.
And in the meantime, Danny Kennedy is back at work! (Well, at least one gig, compared to his normal 30 per month.)
