107 gone sailing


Making a run for the Delta. Took off from Berkeley yesterday at 11:30am, hoping to avoid the worst of "the slot" crossing the Bay. I did, sort of. But I still capsized once (big wave, bad timing), and was pretty cold and ready to call it a day by 2:30. Camped overnight at Point San Pablo, today the goal is to make it through Carquinez Strait.

The seals say hello.

As a Gen Xer, I’ve been sold a steady diet of Boomer crap since I was born. At this point, I know more about Boomer pop culture than I do Gen X pop culture. 570 she's a delicate thing

Here we go again. More bike talk, more battery talk. It's Bike & Battery! So here's an ebike made in the USA, from Detroit Bikes. It looks just like a normal bike, because it is. The "e" part is all in that honking rear hub. (So I guess it has a wider bracket than a normal bike?) This was from an article questioning our use of helmets on bikes. The basic tenet of the argument is that helmets haven't made biking safer. If you're hit by a car, which is how most bicyclists die, they don't offer much protection. They're basically good if you crash your bike yourself. And they give the general overall impression that cycling is dangerous, or that cars don't need to pay attention because you're covered. 469 who spiked the corona?

Omicron is here. In less than a month, it has gone from zero cases in the US, to 73% of cases as of this past weekend. At top is San Francisco, below is New York State. The good news is, if you're vaccinated, you might not get too sick. The bad news is, there's a pretty good chance we're all going to get sick in this one. Here's NYC, where you can see omicron is making the curve from March 2020 look small. Or else, lockdown. I'm not a doctor, or an expert. Here's what I've picked up about omicron: 1. It is more transmissible . At least twice as easily spread as the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2. They say it's on the level of measles, the most easily spread virus we know. 2.
