ABC, 123, that's fascism for you and me

Fascism is one of these words that's been thrown around for a while in the USA.

At first, I heard it used to describe Mussolini, the Italian dictator who aligned himself with Hitler during WW2. (While Hitler was also fascist, what he did went even beyond that undesirable label. The name of his little organization is now basically synonymous with bad guy.)

Then, when Shrub43 was rounding up Muslim immigrants, attacking sovereign countries for their oil, and creating an always-on domestic surveillance state, I started to hear the F word again, about...us.

Now, with Dear Leader?

Sadly, you can pretty much substitute "America" for "Sweden" in this article, and it's still accurate.

How grim has their result been?

Oh, ten times worse than their neighbor, but only a smidge worse than the US.

Ten times more death, and the economy is a little worse, too.

Whoops. Let's try madlibbing this.

"America suffered a vastly higher death rate while failing to collect on the expected economic gains."

Sounds about right.

Turns out people all over the world are voting with our feet.

And when you tell them you're not going to help, they vote even harder.

More bad news, folks. While we might not recognize Covid-19 or the Syrian civil war as byproducts of the climate catastrophe, they are.

This is a planet in collapse.

Fortunately, our very existence isn't the only thing falling apart.

Brad Payscale is out.

Bridgegate Bill is in.

A fair question.

Apparently they did the math based on two two gram blunts per day. Right on.

This section brought to you strictly for adolescent humor.

Although if you're groaning rather than laughing, I forgive you.

A little bit of good news to keep hope alive.

After four months of pandemic, the hippest dining spot in the city gets two blocks closed, three nights a week for six hours at a time, for the next three months.

It's a start.

A slow start.

According to our supervisor, maybe a slow and painful start?

And Haight Street? Jefferson?

And a little long term perspective.

An industrial waterfront area in SF is getting a $3.5 billion remake. You know what you do when you're about to spend a few billion dollars? You think ahead.

Finally, news from Florida.

My brother-in-law has tested positive, and is still running errands. My step-mother-in-law got out of the hospital earlier this week, and is recovering at home. And my father-in-law had a scare on Thursday, but got checked out and is home again.

Be safe everyone.
