Well, I haven't dug my way out. I'm still here with everyone else, dodging a virus and getting shelled by bullshit. Today, the best I can do is not lead with the bullshit.

One of our closest friends has the virus. She literally lives around the corner. We hung out twelve days ago, riding in a car together, with the windows down and wearing masks. She tested positive on Monday, after feeling flu-like symptoms for a few days. (And is already feeling better, thankfully.)

Looking at timing, it's likely that she got infected between last Sunday and Wednesday. (We hung out on Saturday, and then I bumped into her again Sunday morning. That's pretty close, but neither Deb or I have felt any symptoms, although there has been talk of getting tested.)

Her husband, who hasn't felt symptoms, is on a waiting list to get tested. He's self-quarantining in the meantime.

She has no idea how she caught it. She works in a nursing care facility, and two of her co-workers have tested positive, but I don't think recently. And so far, none of the residents have caught the virus. She's been wearing masks and washing hands.

There are obviously many possibilities, but I do find it alarming that both of the outbreaks I'm privy to have involved people who work at care facilities. These are indoor places where there isn't an option to work from home.

Anecdotally, it's not a good time to be mixing it up with groups of people inside.

Living in California, it's easy to forget that indoor/outdoor living is not a comfortable option for many places. Maybe we'll all start wearing these?

Yesterday I bought a bunch of stuff on Amazon. Between the new car, the constant parade of plastic packaging I'm tossing in the garbage, and buying pretty much everything outside of groceries on the world's richest person's platform, I am not feeling like a very good example of progressive values.

So here's a question: what would Amazon look like in a just world? Could it work?

The progressive DA of Philadelphia has some ideas for what to do about jackbooted thugs.

Make a stand.

Because that's what you do with bullies.

They don't expect a fight.

Or maybe they do...

Clarification: they don't expect a fight from their own side of the blue line.

After his superspreader event backfired, and ignoring the situation didn't work, somebody is desperate for attention.

So he's back to playing doctor.

Stride to the podium...

Read the speech they wrote for you...

Maybe wing it a little bit...

Aced it!

Joe wears masks!

They really hide your face nicely.

While doing all the neo-liberal stuff you like to do.

From what I've read, they're actually looking to make legal something they've been doing for a couple decades now.

And neither can the world's highest rate of incarceration. (Thanks Tough-On-Crime-Bill42!)

If you haven't read my book Plumb Crazy about the real reason violent crime has gone down around the world in the past twenty-five years, it's available on Amazon. (Along with several other books and one movie. They are all barcoded, yes, thank you, I know I'm a part of it.)

Spotted this on the next block. I guess they came back to collect it. Or does this mean that the left loves SF? I do.
