134 "2020 hindsight"
Of course, we didn't know any of that at the time. I mean, everyone in Asia seemed to get it, and I remember seeing Chinese Americans wearing masks back in February, but the CDC just saw a shortage of N95 masks for the pros, and voila, world's worst pandemic response.
(Ok, I haven't checked in on whichever Stan it was that forbade talking about the virus in public.)
Yesterday we were at one of Deb's clients' which has become a rental. One of the tenants was moving out, I asked him about his home brewing gear (for cider, it turns out) and we chatted a bit. He can't afford the rent and is out of work, so he's moving back in with his family.
(His rent being the thing paying our bills, and since he'd clearly already made up his mind, and because it's none of our business, I didn't explain the rent-amnesty-no-evictions-ever-for-not-paying-your-rent-right-now rules in SF. And I guess a rent strike gets complicated with roommates.)
Anyway, it was sad to watch. And very, very emblematic of the moment.
I have no idea how, but the husband of our friend around the corner with Covid-19 has tested negative. They have been sleeping in the same bed, her in a mask, him without, I think.
Go figure. It could be a false negative. He could still get it. But for now, weird. I'll take it, though.
She's feeling better, but it's up and down.
News from Portland...
Things aren't going so well in the "war on moms."
Heads up, they never had control. The chant is, "Who's streets? Our streets!" for a reason. They really are our streets.
And the more of this we see.
The more of this they'll see.
Until, of course, they build a green zone, like we did in Iraq. Here we are. This Republican Administration is an occupying force in Democrat-leaning cities. Hello fellow Americans, when troops show up to shut down Nascar in the spring, when there's some sort of all-out-push by the new administration to control this fucking virus the way it has been in other developed countries, the precedent was there, in Portland.
Posse Comitatus, meet DHS.
How do you get police to investigate a provocateur?
Well, accusations that he's one of their own might be a good place to start.
Except it was a tip.
Meanwhile, this shit keeps happening.
The woman videoing did an excellent job of making sure these kids were safe. The police, not so much.
We've been on this tip for a couple years now. After you get used to not having your clothes shrink every time you dry them, a clothes line is pretty great.
(Thanks to the Dutch Greek Brit for that one.)
