135 a fall preview, travel advice, and tailgating

Another Wednesday trip to the Farmers' Market.

This place removed the boards from their windows, or got new windows, I don't know which. They are working real hard to stay open and keep up appearances.

It's hard to see, but this picture tells a lot of the SF development story. Center is an SRO hotel that has been threatened to be torn down for years. Instead, it's getting built up around.

On the left is the former Honda Dealer, now slated to be torn down, at one time this was the Filmore West. Super famous rock club. Before that, it was a less famous Latin club, I believe called El Patio. Before that, it was a ballroom.

In the middle, a new tent encampment.

In the background, some new construction. The white spire was built on a lot the city donated to Good Will. The terms said they had to have a store there for fifteen or twenty years, as soon as that ran out, they tore it down and built a high rise. (Good Will aren't idiots, they know money when they see it.) Another part of the terms then said part of that building would belong to the city.

It would serve as offices, with the head of the department of public works getting the star of the show, a big penthouse suite. It is supposedly nicer than the mayor's office. Unfortunately, he got busted by the FBI in a bribery scenario, and never got to move in.

I'm not sure who did, but you know it was somebody.

When I first saw this flag, I figured he put it on there to avoid harassment. Then maybe I thought it was just, you know, patriotic.

Unfortunately, I think it's meant to be ironic.

Just when everything looks like new houseless camps and garbage, you run into some chamomile in full bloom in the concrete.

And you marvel at the new outdoor dining spots.

And the murals keep getting better.

And people are modifying their bikes into electrics just by adding a wheel.

To be fair, I think these might be unmarked NYPD? Although I have heard the fed goonsquads are in NYC.

Something about how the bike cops coordinated with them says this was a local operation.

It's nuts how police are learning to use bikes effectively. They are a really useful tool.

The intellectual class being subdued by paid thugs of a mediocre celebrity huckster wannabe dictator. This is the new normal.

Debating whether a pandemic which has already killed 1 in 2000 Americans is real. This is the new normal.

In case you're getting itchy to go somewhere.

This is based on the current percent-of-tests coming back positive.

Duh.

Also called a "motel."

Consider pulling an angry astronaut.

Above is advice on what to do when getting gas, modified by me. Apparently, wiping down touchscreens with alcohol repeatedly isn't great for them, so save the wipes for your own hands.

Also, it's the soap that kills the virus when you wash your hands, it's really not necessary to keep the sink running.

Or maybe just think about next year.

"Some time."

The housing crisis is about to get very interesting.

So here's the Republican playbook for the fall.

"Justice" for the billionaires, "system" for the rest of us.

Expect more "war on moms."

At this point if you're so-called "white" and you don't think there's a racism problem, it's because you're racist.

And if you vote by mail but don't think others should, you're suppressing the vote.

Well now we get into the whole "Russia" thing, which is where my eyes glaze over in the debate.

Um, seriously, the CDC told us not to wear masks for almost a month after lockdown, and dear leader waited four months to put one on. This Republican Administration didn't need any help bungling this one.

Why don't we hear about the great Australian effort to unhinge our elections? Wait, you didn't know Fox News is owned by a foreigner? OMG, build a wall!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the headline that caused over 1000 Americans to die yesterday from a novel coronavirus.

Or we could look a little closer to home.

Surely it can't all be bad news?

Look, the fans are packing the stands!

Business is flourishing!

We're all wearing masks!

Thinking about going sailing this weekend, I wondered what the parking situation will be by the boat launch. Usually during baseball season, you have to wait until there isn't a game. But right now?

My guess is there is actually going to be a pretty good tailgate scene, what do you think? I know McCovey Cove will have boats anchored out.

It doesn't attack neurons, just the cells around them. (That's why you get your taste back.)

My knee wasn't as crazy about dancing to this as I was.
