180 doing tourist stuff
Yesterday Deb needed to drop off her car for a couple hours to get remote entry installed. The shop was at California and Van Ness, so we took a walk down Polk Gulch to the water.
My pictures aren't the best, but many bars and restaurants on Polk have added outdoor dining. It's really charming. I would be more than happy if it sticks around.
Fisherman's Wharf had only a fraction of the usual crowds, but there were definitely signs of life.
Unfortunately, the venue where we were planning to put up Mark Twain's Barbary Coast Revue this year is still shuttered. The application for a live entertainment permit is still up, announcing an April 20th hearing that never happened.
Somehow I'm still hopeful, though. Slowly but surely I've been working through the script, and other members of the cast and crew have been very encouraging. There are several puzzle pieces to solve, not least of which is the pandemic, but the show must go on!
It's amazing how agile something like a T-shirt shop can be.
The air in the afternoon was better than in the morning.
This shot is from Twin Peaks about 8am. Fog meets smoke. I guess that's truly "smog."
Visiblity was under a mile. The financial district skyline is in the middle of this picture.
And nobody was out exercising. Most weekend mornings, this intersection has featured a boot camp.
And now for headline roulette...
Repeat after me: "A clang bird is a bird which flies in ever-decreasing concentric circles until eventually it flies up its own asshole with a loud, resounding clang, sir."
Outdoor haircuts were allowed Sept. 1 now they can move indoors on Sept. 21. This is largely due to protesting from six-months-out-of-work beauticians.
Unless, of course, something changes.
They say, "If you want to make god laugh, tell them about your plans." So what is the universe's reaction to central planning?
How are our neighbors to the north doing? About 10k deaths in 37 million people. That's about twice as many deaths per capita as Germany. But it's less than 3/4 of the deaths in California, again per population. And maybe one third the death rate of the USA in total. Or something like that.
Do you know anyone who thought they were sick earlier in the year, got an antibody test, and it came back positive? Me neither.
Is it that the antibodies didn't stick around?
Or 2019 hindsight?
"Subleasing" to who?
Open floor plan offices might not make for the healthiest of squats.
Be safe, everyone. How, I'm not sure. Suggestions?
