204 are we having fun?
It's 8:00 a.m. and I'm late taking the dogs for a walk. It feels much earlier, there is still very little traffic on our street. Walking past the two schools a couple blocks up, I can see why . There are no students.
Why San Francisco, with a stated goal of reducing our greenhouse emissions to zero by some year in the near-ish future, has students' parents drive them to school is a mystery to me.
It dawns upon me that my experience of the pandemic, which is basically my normal life plus masks minus indoor socializing, has been a lot different than many other people's. Many people have been experiencing radical change in their lives. Complete unemployment. New job. Moving. Stuck at home. Family time!
Speaking of carbon-neutral, this is the gas station I go to most frequently.
It's on land leased from the city, and our supervisors are wondering if giving them another 25 year renewal is the right thing to do, considering our goal to reduce emissions.
How do I feel about that? My gut says, "don't take my gas station." My heart says, "let it go." My lazy ass says, "no!" My brain says, "we'll see."
There is smoke in the air again this morning. I smelled it and then checked purple air . Over a hundred, in the red.
I'm going to look you in the eye and lie.
Now, I'm going ignore your question and go back to the last question, so I can get the last word in.
I have faith that I'm doing the right thing, despite the results.
There is no systemic racism, just so-called "white" judges.
But if there is racism, it's your fault as a prosecutor.
Are we having fun? Is this entertaining?
For six months now, I've been looking at the day's news and writing my thoughts about it. Irony is perhaps my strongest tool, and poking fun at our situation is my default mode.
But is it fun? No.
It's processing. Like every other human, I'm talking in an attempt to make sense of the world.
Now, let me offer my own political views. I believe in the US, we basically have a choice between far-right and middle-right candidates. Democrats are just as in bed with the oligarchs as Republicans.
("We will not ban fracking.")
They have a slightly less sinister outlook on the world, and I believe genuinely want social progress, but just like the rest of America, they don't really want change. Not anything that might endanger profits, at least.
For this, they get painted as socialist anarchists.
Meanwhile, the right wraps itself in flags and holds up crosses, while doing all the same favors for their wealthy sponsors, and more. The policies they push have nothing to do with making Americans stronger, or the teachings of the Jesus Christ mythology. They're in it for the money.
For this, they get painted as fascist dictators.
Anyway, none of this is particularly funny. But thanks for sticking with me.
So long and short, here's what I saw on stage at yesterday's debate. One person who is moderately connected to life in modern America, and one person with a lot of faith.
Faith in what? Dear leader.
Speaking of dear leader, his desire to return to "normal" apparently includes a wish to continue "debating."
That's one week from today. So far, I haven't heard any announcements that dear leader isn't infectious anymore.
But if he is getting better, he has science to thank (despite the objections of his "faithful" supporters.)
As someone who occasionally capsizes in SF Bay, I can sympathize with this view, actually.
And this one.
We passed a parade of firetrucks yesterday, and didn't know why. Reading SFGate, I think it was a memorial for this guy.
A former co-worker has been posting "Covid Sessions." I really enjoy seeing people enjoy being creative and practicing their craft in an honest way.

The maker of the original "cheap ebike on kickstarter" has gotten into the electric moped game.
That's about half the price of their competition. (Maybe half the performance, too, I don't know.)
Sometime yesterday, while looking forward to the debate, I realized I'm not voting for Joe. I'm voting for Kamala. Why? Two reasons.
1. She's a local hero. I've voted for her every chance I've had, from SF DA, to state AG, to senator.
2. She's somewhat connected to reality.
Ok, and three, she's not an old "white" man.
