208 you're part of something bigger

Not much of an agenda today.

Was in Paso Robles yesterday. It's a cute western town with victorians and craftsmans, alleys and live oaks much older than the town.

Lots of deer lead to lots of 6' fences at the front property line, which isn't the nicest to look at.

Alternatively, some people go with more see-thru protection for their gardens.

It's transitioning from being an ag town to a wine country town, and with that comes a different brand of lawn sign.

Cypress do pretty well there.

When planting, it's good to think well into the future. (I love privacy, and think these are lovely trees, but they look pretty ridiculous fifty years later.)

We visited a vineyard, Ecluse, and chatted with the owner. He was definitely thinking about the future when he started making wine 25 years ago. At the time, he said there were 70 wineries in the area, now there are 300.

Deb really enjoyed the wine. (I was driving.)

Speaking of The Social Dilemma, friend The Laughing Shamrock (I'm pretty sure he had a different nickname last time he was mentioned) reposted this "where it started, where it went" meme.

And since we're on memes.

File under: the blessed sound of silence

Whoops. Blew through another billion.

Haven't checked in on the local numbers for a while.

Nationally, Cov2 is still on a ripper.

In SF, we've had 11k documented cases, and 123 deaths. That's above a 1% death rate, which is not so good. If the real death rate is 0.37%, and I have yet to see a better number (although none of these are really "good" numbers, we're talking about people dying), that means about 2/3rds of the infections in the city go untested, and our real number of sick or recovered is closer to 30k.

That's about 3-4% of our total population. Clearly, we're not on the "herd immunity" strategy.

A scene from last week. Be safe everyone. Wear your masks, especially indoors around people not in your bubble. Why? Because you're part of something bigger.
