227 howl at the moon

Happy Halloween. A survivor holiday. It's not christian, or celebrating genocide. It's one of the good old fashioned seasonal "pagan" holidays that says, "summer is over, witches." Get ready for winter. Say goodbye to the spirits of your crops, and hello to the darkness.

Don't think I'd ever seen this photo of the town I grew up in, circa 1870. The sand dune in the foreground would soon be covered by classy victorian hotels.

Then when the auto came into vogue, with parking lots and trashy amusements. (This was a favorite swimming spot for a few years when I was a kid, "the ledges." Some of the hotel foundations were still around at that time.)

Now it's condos and still lots of parking. The beach is smaller because the seawall creates erosion.

Meanwhile in SF...

We're putting the brakes on reopening pools! Rats.

Movie theaters are reopening, at 25% capacity or 100 masked guests, whichever is less.

Other theaters continue to go out of business.

It will sure be interesting to see what emerges from all of this.

Be safe, howl at the moon.
