243 shackitecture, take 2
We took a walk to North Beach yesterday. I took a bunch of pictures, and started a draft of this post describing them, but my phone or the app decided it was too much, and deleted everything. So this is the quick version, hopefully.
You can no longer drive to your exercise class, you're going to have to get exercise going there. The parking has been repurposed.
There's an exciting, gold rush feel about town. Everything is new and built in a hurry.
Some corners were cut the city would normally never allow.
Different places have different standards. At House of Nanking, the parklets was solid and functional, but the experience was all about the food.
Which they are serving on heated dishes.
Mr. Bings had two of these parklets, it looks like they've been doing good business.
This was the only one we saw with doors, and it looked super posh. I think we will soon be seeing more doors.
Grant Street was closed for a couple blocks in Chinatown, but it looked like it could easily be closed in North Beach, too.
The difference in finishes is an opportunity for each business to extend its brand.
We passed through maybe four closed streets. Deb will tell you how much I loved it.
People seemed to agree.
Overall, a very exciting time to explore the city. Everything is new and different. Maybe not quite as busy, but things are happening, and there is a lot of charm being built, very quickly.
SF is at our best when we're being agile.
Meanwhile...
And...
The recycled battery business is definitely a thing.
Every time I find something new, that I think is pushing progress forward, I open a new door...
And I find a room crowded with people who have already been there, and are usually psyched to share what they've learned.
Like how to turn old laptops into EVs.
You know, for the environment.
File under: just a little extra effort
