249 an experiment, or a segue
You know shit is serious when the AAA magazine is telling you to stay home.
Yesterday I mentioned that there may be "draconian" rules coming. But what does that mean?
Draco was a real guy. He was one of these "set in stone" type hardnoses.
There's a big difference between "rule of law," and "law and order." One is all about legislation, the other is all about batons.
What we currently have in the US appears to be Machine Authoritarianism fronted by someone who thinks we have Strongman Authoritarianism, or at least Bossism.
And his supporters are nervous, because they think our technocrats are out to get him.
He doesn't seem too nervous himself.
Meanwhile, on the high seas. One of the more exciting sailing events is taking place right now, the Vendee Globe. Held once every four years, this is a group of 60 foot, solo sailboats racing West to East around the world, taking the horn and the cape to port.
To get the fastest ride, they crossed the Atlantic and are currently near Brazil. But they're about to turn and head toward Africa.
If you've never been sailing, 20 knots is fast. It's about three times faster than I've ever been in my little dinghy. And this is napping speed on these boats. That's one at top. It's called an Imoca 60. The foils and scowbow design were first proven raceworthy on a smaller class of ocean racing boats, the Mini Transat 6.5.
Finally, an experiment. Or a segue, I'm not sure which yet.
