278 ready for torpor
Took a walk with Deb yesterday morning. She wanted to get coffee. Above, this is socializing in 2020. The regulars standing around on the sidewalk, six feet apart.
Although I am hearing a fair amount about people who have been socializing indoors. Often without masks.
Apparently, it's really hard to not see anyone.
Because we're moving into triage. Unfortunately, a huge amount of medical spending is spent on last ditch efforts to extend life. Watching the system that is so used to doing everything as perfectly as they can because otherwise they'll get sued for malpractice run into a wall of...emergency...is, well, it's what we're doing.
Some places (Sweden) opted for the harsh-truth-from-the-get-go approach, and didn't provide ICU care to the very susceptible. That also backfired. Honestly, I don't know what the best answer is.
My gut tells me it's probably not the best use of our resources fighting off the inevitable, but wait until I'm the one in that hospital bed.
In the meantime, we can at least give a lifeline to all the non-susceptible people who are taking one for the team.
Or something like that.
