289 this is a test
Captain Composer wanted to do a capsize test of his new-to-him dinghy.
So we set off from the docks yesterday, into the wild and hairy waters of Lake Merced.
I was first out. It turns out he was having an equipment failure. But a jerry rigged gooseneck got him out in a few minutes.
So we headed down the lake, to find some good wind for a few match races.
He jibed, and there was an incident with the mainsheet getting wrapped around his neck. The boat got tippy, and water spilled in over the edge.
And then she sunk. Not all the way, but definitely one of the enclosed floatation chambers flooded full of water. There's a chance we could have got the boat floating again, but it likely would have involved me going for a swim, too.
Fortunately, a guy on a little plastic jon boat with a huge motor came over to help.
Being a smart sailor, he took the tow.
As they say, adios 2020.
We made it to midnight. Some napping may have been required.
Some dancing, too.
Been seeing references to this game, so I went and checked it out.
No, I didn't play it, just read about it. As William Gibson said, it's really just GTA with a dystopian 80s future skin. And from my one experience playing GTA, I can tell you I would get sucked right in and not want to leave.
It took about ten years and $300m to develop. It's been released about three weeks, and made all that money back in pre-sales.
Keanu Reeves was the big star, but reading the fan stuff, it's all about this guy.
The original creator of the series. It started as a pen and paper RPG. What's stood out to me about Mr. Pondsmith is despite his game fame and owning his own business, he still seems to take day jobs. Maybe it's just easier to make money that way?
Anyone play yet? Any reviews?
Is that Elon Musk's girlfriend?
There's this new model of business that seems to go like this: Rebrand something electric from China, and pre-sell your import order on Indiegogo as if you've come up with some big invention.
Still, how much fun does this look? Something like 7kw power to the back, and 3kw to the front. That's about 15hp total.
I'd be making motor sounds with my lips, but it's electric.
There was coronavirus news, too, but less is more! Suffice to say, our lockdown was extended. Saw some pics of unmasked friends mixing it up at a (very small) party last night. I'm sure they were careful to the best of their ability (short of actually following the rules), and it's very likely they were safe, but I imagine that scene played out in a lot of homes last night.
