290 life's a beach
We went out to Ocean Beach yesterday, along with the rest of the city. I managed to take two photos, the one above, and these two ebikes.
It's pretty impressive how un-awkward these bikes look. It was also impressive how the next wave took every one of those women off their feet.
One of the things we did to stay up for midnight NYE was watch a half hour of Bob Ross. I love that guy. His art is total cheese, but he's hella good at it. And more importantly, he's a great reminder that the best artists are total cheaters. Technique isn't about making your life hard, it's about getting great results easier.
This was a great lesson at this particular point in my tablet-learning experience. I've been striving to make something that feels "painterly" and has my touch. After a few years of painting on cardboard, I've been going for the same feeling of, "I only had one chance to get this right."
But that's simply not true on the tablet, and I've got a ton of tools to fake it. So i kinda need to rethink this.
This guy is living a pretty beautiful life. Could we all do what he's doing and be sustainable? Probably not. But he's making a nice go of it.
Spent some time yesterday playing devil's advocate about the closure of outdoor dining. It got me kinda worked up.
Watching our city's businesses close one by one is pretty sucky. Hearing how most of the money in the country doesn't seem to care because it turns out most of the economy is generated behind empty desks in suburban office parks, and in speculative bubbles fueled by "Robinhood day traders," is a bit of an eye opener.
This from one of my favorite bloggers, who is 79. It's an interesting perspective, looking back on the span of life. He seems like a guy who knows a lot of people, and he makes efforts to keep in touch, yet... Of all the people I know now, I may only know a few of you in thirty years. (If I am so lucky as to make it that long.)
Of course, he's not on Facebook. And I doubt I will be by then, too. Although I'm sure they're taking great strides toward owning the VR space that we will all eventually be converging in, and will continue to buy up competitors, David will come along. Thirty years is a long time in tech.
Of course, plenty of tech companies have been in the game that long, and are still on top. (Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, Intel, HP, Samsung, Dell, Sony, and onward into diminishing fame...) Facebook 2051. Now there's a scary thought.
Deb took this week for vacation, so I kinda followed suit. Not sure what it means, but we went to the beach three times. So far.
