294 what does "ment" mean?

We've been watching "The Crown." It's a blend of gossip and drama, oh, and some history. I was talking with Deb about it, and said its like Downton Abbey, but without the hard work of having to make everything up. Instead of fictional drama, it relies upon the gravity and fame of the british royals to create heat. I suppose there's a lot of history to research, and then you have to make the drama work within that. It's not an easy writing job, I'm sure. But I'm sort of fascinated by the way a writer can leverage celebrity to achieve note for their work.

The other thing I found myself thinking about is the word, "parliament."

The etymology is exactly what I expected. "Parler" is French for talk. (English, if you don't know, is basically a blend of French and German...or, if you want to go back further, of Romans and Vikings.)

The "ment" part made me think. What other words have "ment?" Government. Monument. Implement. Mental. What does "ment" mean? I got to thinking about it, and well, parliament is where all of these people get together to talk and think. A monument is one thing (mono) to remind you (ment) of something else. A government, is where all of the governors get together to think. Duh, "ment" means "mind."

File under: 49-50-?

I'm not one to tell you that the Democratic Party is going to save America. But I do think there are some people in that party who have really good ideas.

That was pretty well said.

Yesterday, I saw a statistic saying 1 in 50 Brits is currently infected with Cov2. Yikes! Then I saw this:

File under: trickle down, or just rotting from the inside?

Well, we now have the template for our next generation of disfunction.

Wondering if Mark Twain's Barbary Coast Revue can get in on the giveaway. Considering we were going to do a run last year, and it got shut down by the government, it seems legit. Our issue is we weren't up in 2019, so we don't have the paperwork to back up our claim. I guess I'll find out. One way or another, we'll turn up funding for this next go.

Still no mention of theatre. Seriously, guys, it's like we don't exist. Until, of course, you're looking for something special to do with your out-of-town guests.

I guess maybe I should be thinking more about batteries.

After about 60 days, they have rounded the Horn and are headed back to France. It's been slow, but there's still a pretty tight pack, so there's a lot to watch. Slowly. Over GPS.

Be safe, love your neighbor.
