310 evolving

Omfg, we're free!

How nice is it to not be abused?

No, I harbor no illusions of our neo-liberal saviors, but god damn! What a step up from this:

One word to remind us just how bad we had it.

And don't worry, we're already starting to come up with new, fresh, inspiring, forward-looking things to talk about.

Like art students in the White House! (Well,  the Admiral's House.) And, a whole new career path for men: come on, being "second gentleman" doesn't sound that bad.

(Well, ok, if you have your mind in the gutter it's a bit weird.)

So now we've got national leadership on the pandemic again. Wow! A federal mandate to wear masks in planes. Crazy!

Meanwhile in San Francisco.

So I've been bitching about the outdoor dining ban. Last weekend, one of the guests we had over is a bartender. She actually agreed with the ban.

She gave two reasons: first, people start out with good intentions, but after a few drinks, social distancing shrinks. Second, the reason we haven't heard about cases occurring because of outdoor dining is because people who have gotten sick that way don't report it. They don't want to tattle, and ruin the fun.

Those are both anecdotal, not science, but it's as good as anything I've heard from the state.

The state capitol was even more secured than SF City Hall on Wednesday.

It was mainly $15m for CHP overtime. The savior of Law and Order, hard at work again.

File under: a better world is happening

Saw a new restaurant parklet under construction the other day, two months into a closure of outdoor dining.

The restaurant owner must be thinking the same thing as me: this new dining space has at least a chance it's going to be permanent, and there's a land grab going on. Love it! Our streetscape is evolving... Away from the car.
