314 donuts, emobility, and apps, duh

File under: urban infill
So it turns out down in LA there's a guy whose been building tiny homes and setting them up on the street for people.

They cost about $1200 in materials each, and include two opening windows, a locking door, and a solar charger for two lights and one's phone.

So the city confiscated them and was going to destroy them, in favor of their own $2b plan to build more shelters and some apartments. I'm not sure what the current status is, but I think he's still building.

How is it that there are now three or four electric pickup startups in the US with prototypes, taking orders, and an electric or hybrid F150 is still years away?

File under: something besides "more is better"
Amsterdam is adopting the economic model of "the donut." Outside the donut, you're just making more landfill. Inside the donut, you don't have enough to eat. The goal is landing their economy in the donut, where everyone has enough, but nobody has too much.

And they're moving toward it more quickly because of the pandemic.

And somehow, all of these things are related.

Because outdoor dining is back. Aka shackitecture. Aka urban infill. Aka taking away car parking. And outdoor entertainment. Except, no wind instruments or singing. So, despite some excellent progress on the musical, we're still in a holding pattern. For now.

At top, Boone in Autodesk Sketchbook. Above, the sunrise in Clip Studio Paint. Each of these programs is turning out to have its strengths and weaknesses. So far, Clip Studio is giving me the painterly look I'm interested in, but a more PC experience.

Autodesk Sketchbook is a smidge more spontaneous, but it's really for making illustrations.

Concepts takes that even further, the UI is awesomely intuitive and quick, but the graphics engine is pretty limited. It's probably my favorite of the three to use, but the final product is going to look like you made it in Concepts.
