347 reasons to be hopeful

Here is the house they moved last week.

It is utterly ironic that a Victorian was moved at great expense into the Western Addition, where thousands of Victorians were torn down in the name of Urban Renewal in the 60s, but I would argue were actually destroyed because of Leaded Gas and Racism.

That I understand that is a reason to be hopeful.

We visited some friends on Saturday. We enjoyed an afternoon on their roof deck, which is usually unaccessible because it's attached to their rental unit. But their former tenant has moved into a bigger apartment.

A reason to be hopeful. Space for new people.

Parklets and the reduction in traffic are my two favorite parts of the pandemic. Reasons to be hopeful.

The slow streets, closed now for almost a year, and popular with exercisers? Super hopeful. Even Scott Weiner can see they're a winner.

Ebikes, the advancement of micromobility? Awesomely hopeful.

Combine all of these together, slow streets, parklets, micromobility? Wow. We've got a transformed city. That's pretty awesome.

If you asked me one year ago if all of that would happen in the next year, I would have said no.

Hope, baby!
