350 what flu season?
Walked down to the Farmer's Market yesterday. The streets are the same, but different. There are more ragtag houseless encampments. It seems that the hotels opened to shelter people during the pandemic are not doing that any more.
Some of the tents have been moved along, and they pop up somewhere else, looking worse.
As I hear more and more about friends being vaccinated, even the possibility of getting the jab myself, am I hearing nostalgia for the shutdown? I sort of feel it. The quiet is awesome.
What's next?
Deb brought up a news article about this last night, after our friend who caught Covid at her nursing home job in the spring was the first to tell us about this. Nobody got the flu at her work this is winter.
They're saying the lack of a flu season nationally (and we're talking 400k hospitalizations last year and 22k deaths versus...126 hospitalizations from October to January this year) had to do with kids not being in school, but will you be wearing a mask next January to indoor events? I will.
Personally, knock on wood, I haven't had anything resembling a cold this year. Not even sniffles. A couple times I've had a slightly runny nose in the morning, probably due to allergies. My brother and mother have both had colds. (And neither thought it was Covid, or was tested, although they know half of people infected show no symptoms at all.) So I guess that's an indicator that SF has been taking this pretty seriously.
Apparently a noteworthy number of women are showing up with swollen lymph nodes on mammograms taken after getting vaccinated. Fortunately, it seems the swelling goes away after a few weeks.
Why? Because their leadership is lying to them.
Somebody got the jab back in January, and didn't tell anyone. Asshat.
I'm not super huge into tiny homes, unless they float, but I have to admit this combo of ebike and travel trailer might have ignited a fantasy or two.
Made by a racing composite company in Europe who needed something to do while racing wasn't happening. They're expensive, about $6k, but that could change with mass manufacturing. Might also make for handy urban camping.
And one off the tablet. Fashion inspiration seems to boil out of necessity sometimes. It's amazing how you see people in the worst circumstance who pull off mad style. These were two characters I saw on my walk downtown yesterday.
Also, Elaine Chao is a little bit dirty, and got a little bit let off the hook by her cronies, but if you've been reading along here, that's not really news. It's all in the family, baby.
I guess it's worth repeating that something like $25million of Senator Turtle's $25million net worth was a gift from her father.
