367 Gardening Saturday again

Making slow but steady progress on that new garden. Above, Deb started selecting plants.

After we put down the foundation level of timbers, got another delivery of wood. Somewhere around here we also got a new chainsaw. Our old one was getting tired, and while it was perhaps technically possible to sharpen it, it was never a great chainsaw to start with, and a better new one still costs less than one of those pieces of redwood.

Here all the wood is in place. The original design proposal called for a bench around that tree, but we wound up going with a more symmetrical approach.

While I would have preferred to use recycled materials, I was pretty proud that this was all the scrap wood leftover. Our estimate was pretty close!

Then came drain rock for a patio. In the classic way of garden installations, this started as a request for stepping stones. Then the client went shopping, and came back with a patio worth of stepping stones.

"So we'll just put these stones right here."

"You mean a patio?"

Which of course requires layers of foundation if you want it done right. Which takes time. Which costs money. Which blows the budget. Which is fine, but don't point at us!

So here's progress on the patio. We couldn't finish it yesterday because the client is doing their own rock shopping and had a plan for how it would all go together, but the plan wasn't as big as the patio. Normally, we'd do all that stuff, but they wanted to help.

Enjoy the day. Oh yeah, we've been invited to play cards tonight with another couple. Indoors. Unmasked. We all received our first jabs about two weeks ago. A doctor friend has apparently showed them data saying it's safe. Will we go?
