388 I remembered
For most of the past year, I've been dedicating creative energy to the Mark Twain's Barbary Coast Revue script. Sure, I've had a few false starts in other directions, and managed to finish Marblehead, but mostly I've been continuing to work on this script I started more than ten years ago.
We've had three readings in that time, and each one has been a step forward, but also left me with feedback. And sometimes the feedback is really big, like, your main character needs a ticking clock. And you sit there and think, "I can't tear this all apart," but maybe that's what it needs.
It's been torn apart plenty to get to this point. Then you dive in and start to work, and you find that actually, if you just change a couple of throwaway lines at his intro into lines that reveal important character info, boom, it's working.
There have been multiple days where my big breakthrough has literally been one sentence. Wednesday was such a day, when I changed a lyric from a straight out recounting of the Clash, "Should I stay or should I go? If I go there will be trouble..." to "Should I stay or should I go, If I go I'll meet the devil, if I stay I'll marry my cousin."
Ten years in, one goofy sentence, a revelation. Boy, I sure hope this shit works.
Been thinking about all the pieces that need to fall in place before we take the stage. Finding a venue will be a big one, I haven't heard back from my contact on Fisherman's Wharf in a while.
My hope is that the person who is going to get the business side of the show into shape will be turning up on the scene soon.
Pretty sweet location for a tiny home village.
This is a resort, but I kinda think this style is going to be big among retirees in the coming years.
Simple accomodations, central amenities, sweet sunny locale.
Although I'm not sure an airstream with no insulation is going to work in the desert in the summer or winter.
Covid news.
It's kind of wild how even in maskville the second and third wave happened.
The deaths seem to be lingering from the third wave.
Meanwhile, nationally the same red-blue divide carries on. Or pink-green, in this map of who's been administering their doses.
And one for gardening Saturday.
Here's the garden installation from last week, at night. We got this picture along with a couple thanks, so it's nice to hear. Also, can you guess who installed the lighting?
Finally, a picture of a light schooner with a junk-gaff rig.
Why? I'm not sure, but I'm going sailing today.
