391 begging forgiveness

Google says they're temporarily closed. The Rec and Park website says make a reservation, but when emailed, responded they're temporarily closed.

But when I walked over there, I didn't see any signs, and people were exercising there, so I'm thinking this is one of these "better to beg forgiveness than ask permission" type situations.

So I'm playing horseshoes Saturday. Now all I need are some horseshoes. And if nothing else, it's a decent spot for a picnic.

For some reason, I keep taking screencraps. It's a habit I'm attempting to ween this blog out of.
.

This headline didn't really surprise me. Aren't we still the apex predator? At what point haven't we been?

Oh, 2.5 million years ago, and 12k years ago. One was because we were smaller apes, the other was because we had killed all the mastodons. (Ok, a few survived in North America and Siberia. There were mastodons in Siberia for a couple thousand years after the pyramids were built.)

And then we figured out farming. It's taken us a while to figure out how to get back to good nutrition on plants alone, but it is increasingly popular.

Covid News

Walked by one of the schools up the street, and the frozen in time playground has been picked up. The toys which had been collecting rain water for a year had been stowed back in their bins. Still haven't seen any actual school kids, though.

Our current lull in infections is, uh, as bad as last summer's second wave.

But we're maybe not hearing as much about it, because the "squeeky wheel got the oil?" (In other words, the opinion movers and shakers have been jabbed and are moving on.)

But it turns out that a pandemic among 60% of the population is still a pandemic.

And although it might not kill you, this might not be super pretty, either.

There's an article going around about how money has become disconnected from reality.

It always has been, but the big government giveaway last year really shined a light on the make-believe.

Is it a bubble? Numbers on a screen?

There's certainly no shortage of it. We just add a few zeroes on the computer!

When fuckface was in charge, I had the very real sense that the dollar could go away. It still could. The reason it hasn't is because everyone uses it, not just the US. But that's also the reason one Bitcoin is now worth $60,000, up from $20,000 in January. (Guess I should have bought back then! Oops again.)

Oh well, I'll just keep reminding myself that less is more, and life is pretty sweet off of the stuff escalator.

(Although shit, really, Bitcoin has tripled again? What am I waiting for?)

File under: overkill versus the squatters
So, you don't have to come back if you don't want to, but if you're fully vaccinated, you can, but only up to 100 people per floor, and you'll have to be tested twice per week.

In the world of mission drift, we will now be eliminating all sniffles, colds, coughs, etc.

Back in the early days of masking, I was joking that in the future, showing your mouth would be like showing your genitals.

Welcome to the future.
