441 on flying and climate change
This underground hallway in the Atlanta airport was an attempt to imitate walking through the forest. It was a pleasant enough effect, until you think about the climate change our abusive behaviors like flying are causing, and how they're destroying the real thing, and how soon enough, these fake simulations might be all we have.
The airport now has water bottle refilling stations, and the airline advertised something about recycling. This is what they call "lipstick on a pig." Or perhaps "window dressing."
What future will the high school graduates of 2021 see? This beach and homes are likely to be gone. Heck, the whole state of Florida is in danger.
But, we soldier on. I know better, but here I am. What the fuck can I do?
The fossil fuel industry, who have understood the impact of their product for decades, has actively fought to deceive us. And when that didn't work, they dumped environmentalism in our laps, and turned it into a personal choice. I'm supposed to feel guilty for my personal actions. But that's bullshit. I would have been just as happy to ride high speed rail or an evacuated tube here, it's just not available.
Instead, I will happily accept a ride in an SUV from a newly minted driver.
Next up: the beach.
