450 bike & battery #3

Back for another installment of the somewhat-less-than popular "Bike & Battery," where we cover all the ebike news I found screencrappable over the past few weeks.

Here we take a brief detour into the world of pedalcycles, or velo-somethings. These are bicycles, in terms of street use definition, no insurance or driver's license required, ok in the bike lane... But with some of the conveniences and comforts of a car.

This "Screecher" by Sunox, which seems to be at least designed in New England, checks off many of my personal wants in this type of vehicle. Some shade/wind/rain protection, in the shape of a solar panel canopy. All-wheel-drive, in the shape of two 350 watt motors. Decent performance, 25mph for 20-40 miles.

And actually somewhat reasonable, at $2500 for a complete kit. That's the same as a decent mid-range ebike.

Of course, every picture I've seen of it appears to be a different prototype, but that's, um, an emerging market for you.

Meanwhile, here's a complete electric truck available in China for $2k. (Make that $5k once you've imported it to the US with tariffs and a battery upgrade.)

It has a back up camera! And a dump bed!

Meanwhile, in the US... Here's more stuff made in China! (But labeled in America!)

This bike recently caught my attention. It's part of a new class of more-affordable full-suspension mid-drive ebikes. This is the "Cyberbike Mullet 2927". It's called a "mullet" because it's got a smaller back wheel.

It has actual name brand components, Rock Shox, and a slightly off-brand 500 watt mid-drive motor.

Still, at $2500 (ok, $3100 on their current website) it might be my best chance at keeping up with my brother-in-law's Specialized Turbo Levo.

They're small enough and new enough that they didn't make this list. Cyberbike was founded in 2019 by former AMA racer Jim Fisher. (No known relation to Gary Fisher.)

They also make a slightly cheaper version of the same bike, called a "Frisco." Clearly, Cyberbike has identified me as a potential customer.

The more I see different types of ebikes, the more I wish it was possible to road test them for comparison.

Hmmm... How to make that possible?

File under: beats another picture of a pumpkin in a golf cart

Some more bicycles with all mod cons.

From dorky...

To fun...

To kind of flat-out awesome.

And back to the Screecher...

This is actually labeled as their third prototype. The one thing I know is it looks completely ready for back-to-the-land fantasies. I wonder if it comes with those boots.
