452 stoned again
Some images from our walk yesterday morning. The LED pride triangle is out doing it's thing. I haven't actually seen it illuminated yet.
A chunk of serpentine in a bunch of chert. I had to look it up to see how this happens. Nobody is exactly sure.
The thought is that chert is formed from sediments, particularly of dead sea creatures. It's about 100-200 million years old. It was thrust into the air by the formation of the San Andreas fault, 10-20 million years ago.
The serpentine, it is theorized, is older, deeper rock that got pushed up into the chert by the fault. It turns into serpentine under high pressure in the presence of water.
Serpentine is the state rock of California. It contains asbestos, but it's as safe as any other rock, unless you pulverize it and breath the dust.
Yarrow? A lovely bloom.
The pride triangle from above. I'm holding my voice about this patch of ground and protecting native species. The triangle looks hella cool.
This combo of artemnesia and whatever this flower is called is one of my favorite local native looks.
Blackberries are coming in.
Took this because I thought that blue patch in a white sky would make an interesting painting, but in reality I rarely paint from photos. I don't like being locked into the perspective of the lens.
What a dynamically beautiful place. San Francisco, thank you.
Oh yeah, this is now available as an ebook.
