455 the catizens want to raise the bed
A few years ago, I wrote a series of essays called "Occupy the Bed." It was an Orwellian comparison between our animals and the US political scene.
Well, I am here to announce, the catizens have successfully taken back the bed. They always had access, with the protection of the one percent (Deb) and the police (me), but in their old age they have truly learned to dominate this sought after space. The New Middle Class (the other dog) has learned to share space, and the deputy sheriff, or maybe he's more of a vigilante (the other other dog), only makes brief visits before he's spooked and runs for cover. I guess that makes him one of these January Sixers.
Phew. I'm sure you're glad you know that.
Do you know about the Delta strain? I didn't until Deb told me about it yesterday. (Apparently, I fall into the category of dumb American who thinks everything is ok just because I'm ok.)
It emerged in India this spring and is quickly becoming the dominant strain of CoV-2.
It's more transmissible.
It's in the US. The UK, where 40% of adults are fully vaccinated, and 60% have their first jab, just delayed "reopening" by a month because of it.
Fortunately, the vaccines currently available offer some protection.
Still, I'm imagining we'll be getting booster shots sometime this fall.
Here's the twist: it won't be a full schedule, but they will be free. SF, August is the month to get your ding-ding on.
So, some scientists are watching the ice melt on an island near Antarctica.
And they don't want us to freak out or anything.
It's not like this ice will cause the world's oceans to rise by 4 feet immediately.
No, it could take... Decades.
I don't know about you, but the older I get, the shorter "decades" sounds.
File under: singularity now
So there's a hot new argument in evolution. Humans as a culture are evolving faster than our DNA.
And it sounds reasonable enough to me. But when are we going to catch on to the fact that there's this other emerging lifeform evolving with our help, called machine intelligence?
Don't worry, the satellites will still be taking photos as we all sink into the sea.
