459 ooo that smell
We saw the smoke of two wildfires in our way north.
Remember Purple Air? The plume in the photo at top is that 179 up in Oregon. We drove thru the smoke eventually, and the sun turned red.
There aren't as many sensors out here, but there was plenty of smoke.
Fortunately none of it was coming from these volcanoes. Knock on wood. At one point we could see Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens.
The scenery along highway 97 is lovely pretty much everywhere but Bend. We were planning on staying there, but every hotel in central Oregon was taken. Motel 6 was asking $160 and was fully booked!
There are plenty of people out and about. Not so many masks.
I had the statistic for a while, I think it's that we've added as much CO2 to the atmosphere since 1995 as was created during the entire industrial revolution up to that point.
It always shocks me the sheer number of cars on the road, especially between SF and Sacramento.
And thus is it goes. Knowing I'm a contributor, turning up the air conditioning, and hoping for the best. I want to do good. I attempt to do less harm.
But don't worry, tomorrow's blog entry is going to be the start of a fun makeover video. Or at least, a video.
