467 talking about the big crimewave

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Instead of editing videos or blogging,  I've been using this time to write what might become a short book or a longer article, currently titled "The Future In Front of Our Faces."

It's not done yet, but I've got a bunch of screencraps lying around, so it's time to clean them off the phone with a round of screencrapalooza.

Let's start here, with two broncos. What? What? I'm not a super car nut like I used to be, but I kinda pay attention. So how did I miss the fact that the bronco launched earlier this year (the one I complained is as tiny as it's escape parent) isn't the real deal? That was the bronco sport, on the right in the photo above.

Apparently the full sized bronco was launched at the same time, but has been delayed in production and not delivered. It's based on the ranger truck, and is a much more traditional SUV. (Body on frame, vs. unibody.)

That sounds like a pretty major fail on the part of Ford marketing. Here's a hint: just call them the bronco and bronco II. It worked thirty years ago, we get it.

Here's Mayor London Breed handing off our freedom and tolerance in favor of expensive handbags.

Big brother, welcome to SF.

This is what's called spin. We're going to prevent all these things that hardly happen! (And save some purses.)

In all the talk about crime's big comeback (that tiny uptick on the right, after years of huge declines), they're still ignoring leaded gas.

They'll debunk every other theory, but that lead thing? It's a little too out there.

None of that stuff had any role, either. Geez, what could it be?

Well, that's one idea I can at least agree with. It's not "stop and frisk."

It's not locking everyone up.

Huh. It was global. Funny, when I wrote Plumb Crazy: the secret history of cops, cars and crime, the only two countries still selling leaded gas were Afghanistan and Yemen, where there totally aren't crazy people trying to kill each other. Not at all.

At least we're getting a car-free Union Square out of the deal.

Sure, we might have to foot the bill to protect all those purses, but whatever.

It's not like we're a liberal, understanding city or anything. What this situation needs is clearly more boots on necks.

This is a big one. I feel for all the small equipment repair people, but if we're going to be serious about cutting emissions, we have to put these little motors into the game. Why?

One hour of leaf blowing=1000 miles of driving. Yikes.

There are more screencraps to be had, but I think that's enough for today. Maybe I'll do a bike and battery tomorrow. And then this weekend is the return of A Mobilehome Makeover. The encore.
