495 The Flood, Ch. 10
Chapter Ten
---
When we emerged from the front door for our next walk, Princess pulled hard to right, downhill. Being careful with the keys, I deadbolted the door and let her nose lead the way.
We were on a nostalgia trip. As we walked through the emptying city, wave after wave of warm memories came to me through her sniffing. A night in this bar, now boarded up. A kiss on that corner, where the trash has collected into a tumbled pile.
Before I understood where we were going, we were standing in front of my old office. The big General Digital sign was still up, but the clock had stopped, at 4:20.
"At least the machines running this place have a sense of humor," I said into the bio sensor, for the voice check, and smiled into the scanner. The doors opened.
Since Dozer seemed to be my IT-oriented memory access, able to sniff out the technical details of this system I'm stuck in, and how it works, I let him lead the way into the building.
