545 "Woke" has jumped the shark

Hello from the great white north, or just a few miles south of there.

It was a late, moist spring here, and wildflowers are just now going off.

This is alfalfa, more of an escapee then a wildflower.

Speaking of weather, California had a wet fall, but a dry winter. We're in a drought, but drought has happened before without these kinds of consequences.

Giant Sequoias live thousands of years. Or, at least, they used to.

Yikes. This is probably preaching to the choir, but I'll repeat myself for any newcomers...

The health of an ecosystem can be seen by the health of its largest members.

In order for us to advocate, or even effect, change, it helps to understand the issues we're facing. Here's a simple way of understanding current politics:

What a great idea. How did the Gipper change the direction of American prosperity?

Well, we were all in it together, then, some people got left behind. Ok, most people.

The government stopped being fiscally responsible, and started debt spending.

A lot.

The US has gone from roughly the same income distribution as Europe, to, well, a big-ass wealth gap.

And from roughly the same healthcare costs and life expectancy, to really expensive healthcare and shorter lives.

But, you know, we're winning!

While we're here puzzling over things, let's look at the original head scratcher this blog started over.

SARS-CoV-2.

Some of the long term data is coming in, and we can see which areas had more deaths. Some of those southern deaths must be because of more retirees, but a lot have to do with public policy.

What will this mean as we move forward in life?

Are we going to get more of the same? (Or less, really.)

Or are we going to look at the graphs and say, enough of these jokers?

Last week I was supposed to go to a family gathering, outdoors, but opted to skip it when there was a covid scare.

Have you heard of any outdoor transmission?

Personally, I haven't yet.

Man, I guess I'm behind the times. "Woke" has jumped the shark.
