610 totally unrelated



At top, a bicycle built for golf. Mid-drive, even. Kinda spendy at $7k, but this is golf. Apparently they're selling. 

We're talking about Bikes and Batteries today. This is a, um, what was this? 

Right, a swappable battery. 

Sounds a lot like a dorado battery with a new design. Having uniform parts between different manufacturers will help us consumers. (Imagine if your car only worked with one brand of gasoline.) So this thinking is in the right direction-ish.

Throw a golf bag holder on the front and they could charge more. ;)

There's gold in them thar batteries. (Or at least some rare earth minerals.)

The question is, how do we get them out, and then back in? 

At least we can haul them about in this. 

It's funny how some designs look bad while others look good. In my eye, that's a pretty good looking box for moving other boxes. 

Best of all, it offers four ovals, three motor-looking-things, two battery looking things, and a ghost.

It's gas. But it probably hauls ass and sips fuel. 

Anything could happen. In a way, every building is an energy storage device. It's nice that we're starting to think about what we could do with that power intentionally, rather than just racing to mitigate it with HVAC.

Apparently this company hired Elmer Fudd for their naming. Introducing the "Twike."

The stylist was hired earlier. 

Or undoubtedly they would have wrapped this three wheeled pedal car in red and black flannel.

Slowly but surely, this pedal car idea is taking off. Ok, maybe I shouldn't say "slowly..."

Well, whatever, as long as it has self-driving.

Or is at least fun. 

But then we run into politics. 

"You can't go on the highway because your ten foot long pile of metal will get crushed by my twenty foot long pile of metal."

Or more. 

I guess in theory you could mount a couple golf bags to the front of this. 

And a few more. 

This is actually kinda cool. The containerization of cargo bikes.

Hello friends, welcome to the most exciting dispatch from Bike & Battery ever. It's such an exciting dispatch, it has taken me almost two months to start. Why?  I've been busy. I wish I could say I've been busy riding our new ebikes, but that's only partially true. Mostly it's been other stuff. But we do have new ebikes, and that's the story we're here for.  At top, the 2024 Cyberbike Mullet R. This is bike number one. After having an eye on Cyberbike for a few years, we pre-ordered this unit last December as part of their Black Friday/Launch sale. It arrived 2 months later, in mid-February, a couple weeks after promised. We paid $1995, including shipping. It's the second or third generation of the Cyberbike Mullet. The full retail price is supposedly $3295, but they're still "on sale" for $2495 as of this writing. "Mullet" means the front tire is larger than the rear. This is a thing in mountain bikes.

600 zoning out, new ideas in

Ok, we're going to stay away from ebikes again in this one, to the best of my ability. Which isn't great, considering we got our first ebike last week.  At top is a fun idea, a way to turn train tracks into, um, not quite micromobility. Or personal mobility. But something nicely in between train and car.  The MonoCab uses gyros to stabilize on one track, so two cars can pass each other. The idea is to run robotaxi-ish shared ride vehicles on existing train tracks.  This would be pretty neat to see where we live. We have train tracks running through town that basically connect to the nearest large city. Currently, we have two viable options for getting back and forth to that city. There's a bus that runs twice a day, or you drive. The drive involves an hour on a two way road. It's a pretty drive, but also pretty scary, especially at night or in the snow. 588 quadricycles of the future, today

You might be wondering why this is another Bike & Battery, when WakeBlake posts are more engaging. The answer is: screenshots. Screenshots and a clean phone ethic. Yes, there are apparently more interesting things going on in my life than screenshots of micromobility, but goshdarnit, they're in the photos area of my phone and first I need to get rid of these screenshots. That screenshot at the top was from a video I watched after my friend Mr. Snake spotted these quadricycles on a trip to Europe earlier this summer. The photo above is one I took in Amsterdam at the end of the summer. What does that mean? They're pretty cool looking. And our collective travel resources have evolved.  The Fiat Topolino/Citroen Ami at top, limited to local road speeds and driveable by anyone over 14, no license required (at least in France), is just one example of the exploding category of micromobility.
